A vent hole provides a way to allow air to escape quickly from a bag filled on an automatic bagging machine. Eliminating trapped air reduces the volume of the package, allowing more finished bags to fit in a case. Vent holes are typically 1/8″ to 1/4″ diameter, and are available as a partially cut “flutter” vent or with full material removal for maximum air relief.
Round Vent
This a round hole with a diameter that is typically 1/8″ or 1/4″ but can be larger.
Flutter Vent
A flutter vent (also known as butterfly) is similar to a round vent except that the material stays attached to the bag, resulting in a cleaner package appearance. Flutter vents come in a variety of sizes, with the most popular being 1/8″ or 1/4″.
Pinhole
A small pinhole in the bag.
Slash
A slash is made using a knife cut in the bag. A slash allows air to get out of the bag easier than a flutter vent but is less visible than a round vent.
